I did that with my last one. Glued and screwed the 2 bys to each other and drilled a 3/4” hole through both sides and used 2 pieces of all thread and 4 nuts and washers to get everything as tight as I could. Sanded the top down and sealed it with a couple clear coats of polyurethane just to help keep it somewhat clean 🤙🏻
