What is the last thing you bought for yourself?

New bag for the primary first aid kit at home (previous one was getting a bit cramped). Missing my pulse oximeter and my sphygmometer tho. The oximeter is no big deal since it was a cheapie from amazon but my BP cuff was a WelchAllyn that I'd kind of like back.

A bit of a beef for the fuckers who make these bags, for the love of christ start using proper zipper pulls...the shitty (and slippery when wet) little metal tabs they use are garbage for an application like this.

No not really in the middle of no where, guess you could describe it as suburban/rural. Not enough land to call it an acreage but neither in the city. I'm ~25km/15 miles to the local Level 1 trauma center (as long as we're taking medical things thought that would be a good point of reference). My cabin is a fairly remote tho, there I have the gear to start an IV and a few bags of normal saline and lactated ringers.

While no longer certified with the provincial regulating body I have previously held an EMT-P (now referred to as an ACP or Advanced Care Paramedic) designation. Haven't worked in that field professionally for over 20 years so it stopped making sense to pay for my own training or certs. So I have a background in emergency medicine and while my skills are a little rusty I'm confident I still know enough to be at least a little helpful when bad things happen. And prior to this covid bullshitery and it biting me in the ass I spent a fair bit of time enjoying activities where there's the potential for injury and I've been fortunate to be there, with the right gear, when friends or strangers did get hurt.

This is the kit I keep in my truck. Some similarities to what I have at home but also has stuff for more significant injuries like a cervical collar and additional hemostatic dressings.

I'm kind of like this with most things I get involved with or am interested in. No half measures (to quote a particularly good Breaking Bad episode). figure if you're going to do something do it right. That said, I'm the first person to admit I often go overboard.

I understand your "first aid box", lots of people (like my brother) are like that. Not even a basic first aid or CPR (which as an aside CPR is a good skill to know, just not nearly as effective or successful as most people believe) course, no proper gear (my bro doesn't even have a fire extinguisher in his house). Its a personal choice and I'd never preach what someone should have.

A new motorcycle helmet,bought my old helmet a a thrift store and was falling apart ending up paying a small fortune for features I probably won't use but it was the only one that would fit right with my glasses, next a newer motorcycle (I wish)
