I used to work as an union iron worker/pipe fitter in the summers during high-school and college (no college debt) definitely need that tool, saves a lot of headaches and smashed fingers

Quite a few fun things actually.

I finally found the right steel Trek road bicycle (from the early 80s when they were still handmade made in the US of A before they outsourced their manufacturing to Taiwan.) to replace the one I had adored for years that got stolen a long time ago. I used to collect steel Treks but when my favorite one was stolen I sold off the others. Same year, model, and size as the one I lost, all original parts, only difference is the color.

Reinforced cycling shoes.

Charcoal kettle grill with a hybrid gas electric starter, hinged and adjustable grates, porcelain enamel inside and out, smoker attachments and accessories, built in storage and a large work surface. Thing is a beast, been using it almost daily.

Teak outdoor/deck furniture

I bought a Suntech Kurenai Japanese seiryu rod. I've already used it to catch panfish, but mainly I'm looking forward to using it in September, which is brook trout spawning season at Whitetop Laurel here in Virginia.

I bought a Coleman butane camping stove. It's all right.

This morning, I ordered a pair of these Pit Vipers, partly because I've always wanted some Pit Vipers, but mainly because my $250 pair of Costa del Mar fishing sunglasses fell into the lake yesterday (I almost always had them on an eyeglass retainer, but of course I left it in the car on the day I actually ended up needing it).

I also bought a bunch of new tools (mainly for work, but also for my own use), too many to list.

Sometimes, yes. I like to smoke trout and crappie, and turn catfish into catfish nuggets. Most often, though, I use barbless hooks and practice catch and release, not even removing the fish from the water when possible (fish stays in net, net stays emersed).

I consider looking like a total asshole to be a perk and a major goal when out fishing.
