I'm going to speak geek now, but I pay for some php scripts and shit that power websites that are not related to goregrish, so lets just say I have a licence for version 1 of a certain software. Version 2 is out but it's not something I'm prepared to pay for when version 1 does me fine. Version 2 has a lot of expensive additions so to buy everything is a lot of money. Long story short I need to download version 1 again because I'm lazy to search my harddrive for the .rar file. Downloading version 1 I notice the URL ends like www.someshit.com/secure.php?m=down1 so I'm like im gonna change that 1 to a 2 and see what happens. I'm now downloading version 2 for free.
