So yesterday some poor old black woman named olrega (probably spelt wrong) turned up at the land, unannounced; brought along by a woman named Pam. So olrega is 86 years old, born in Jamaica but raised in Britain since she was 9. Very well spoken. Anyway she's on an adventure looking to find "home" with her suitcase (massive). She left London to find a place in Cornwall, "you're never too old, I told myself, just be as you were when younger, pack your back and start a new journey". Anyway she had got stuck in a place called Fowey and couldn't find a place to stay for the weekend. So she was brought here.
Bearing in mind how "primitive" the facilities are here and that her accommodation would be an old caravan with no lights, water, cooking equipment or heating/electricity/gas. Anyway.. the reception from the owners (Addie in particular) was frosty, and fairly helpless. So I jumped in, went and cleaned the caravan out, got some bedding, took her bags etc etc.
Anyway we ended up talking all night, turns out she did theosophy at university and wrote several essays on Jung and Freud.. so we had shit to chat about (I'm obsessed with Jung). Anyway she had a hard morning today it seems and went elsewhere to wash and what not.
When she got back today at 5:30pm meet n the boys were constructing a ceiling, which we've finished. And Addie was quite dismissive of the old dear and basically put her off/ignored her. Anyway job was done and I went back to my tent.
At 7 I heard her voice from the trees.. she was lost and couldn't find her way to the caravan and didn't want to ask Addie.
So since then she's been in here, I made her dinner which she liked, we talked about psychology, past life's, the meaning of life, rudeness, politeness, selfishness, environment, spirituality, happiness etc etc.. was actually very deep conversation.. until 11 when I led her back to the caravan, with some torches, changed her bedding for her etc etc.
She took a vow of celibacy at 31! Has been a scholarly academic type, worked as a law secretary, a seamstress and a teacher. Doesn't like living with people but likes people and "I have to be in this world, but not of it, to do good" so she's venturing out "to find home and do good amongst others"
Basically, she was fucking great, very very intelligent.. very "deep", wise and pleasant.
And have to say people
Being able to help her and chat like we did when the others were all so shitty with her has made me feel pretty good..
So yeah
An 86 year old black woman who likes psychology and spirituality, is living out of her suitcase, and roaming Cornwall looking for home..
She made me smile today..
She has more about her that most people my age do, more get up and go, roll with the punches, and more depth of thought and just yeah, great lady. All the best to her
Also, we finished building the new ceiling which is handy I guess
