What's your take on consciousness?

How would you feel if the electrical signals in certain parts of our brain lit up in the exact same way as transformers when they do certain things?

I don't know what your intent was, but reading that made my three pound clump of meat hurt. :freak:

"without projecting into the past or future" - This remains my greatest illness and character defect despite my sobriety

It is the hardest practice; to try and stay in the present moment.

We can’t help our ‘chimp brain’ (emotional apparatus) doing its thing, which often takes us back or forward in time. But like a rowdy chimp, we can ignore it with practice and effort.

I can’t recommend the book/ audiobook A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle highly enough. I’ve completed it almost 13 times now. It’s been the greatest teaching for my own ‘consciousness’.

The universe doesn't think or know anything about itself but for what the minds of the creatures born of its elemental structures can comprehend and ascertain. In short the human is the only part of the universe that can try to understand why it exists.
That reminds me of this quote:

“The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”

― Carl Sagan

True consciousness is becoming aware of the fact you are the listener, not your mind’s voice.

Allowing feeling and emotions, without giving them a name or blaming them on something or someone else.

Being totally aware of the present moment, without projecting into the past or future.

Also, simultaneously being aware of the fact you are a worthy part of the universe like everything else in existence.

Becoming conscious keeps me sober, happy, rarely stressed and able to fit in with all of you nutters 😂.
Genuine question: are you, by any chance, a Buddhist?

It's the ONLY piece of our original humanity from The Garden, we humans had capabilities undreamed of even now with our "smart" era. A quantum function that once was part of not just three, but four dimensional planes. meaning you could pretty much wish anything you want, and the ones assigned to "watch" said "WTF, why didn't WE get that!?"

Here we are.....

Do you believe in Special Creation?

No, but I’ve studied Buddhism. It’s a big part of addiction recovery work a the initial therapy in rehab.

I respect the teachings in Buddhism. However, my nerdy ADHD brain likes to mash things up into my own unique formula.

I do a lot of spiritual/ mindfulness work and meditation. I wish they taught it more in schools as it amazing for managing the stress of the modern world.

Well it's a very old debate . My take on it is a mix of genetics and environment . Your more likely to be a violent criminal if your father was and you grew up neglected or abused , Though not every one coming from the background will grow up that way . The thing for me is if you've seen a person who has had a stroke or an acquired brain injury . The personality can completely change . They latterly become another person . So I'm more on fleshy computer team
