For whatever it's worth (in Canadian currency please), I think that "Why do men rape women?" might just come down to our very own ancient history.

Humans have been fumbling all over the Earth for umpteen centuries. If we go back 300,000 years or more I don't think that males asked the females if they could fuck them. A male got the urge, the female was there and he mounted her. Possibly all those years ago, females were like birds, or cats, or horses, or dogs or Triceratops, and somehow were able to let their male counterparts know when they were ready to do the dirty. The males responded, maybe fought other males for it, and they did their thing with the female whether she was ready at that particular time or not. Bottom line was that the female was impregnated.

It is possible that today's males, so-called evolved humans (I mean since we stopped being cave people and neanderthals), might still retain some of that ancient primitive behavioral pattern in their genes/DNA that was simply meant for pro-creation (no, lol, not in the sense that the Bible or whatever says it was) of the human species back then. But today's humans - male and female - are direct (or sometimes in-direct) descendants of our ancestors' primitive times regarding mating thousands and thousands of years ago.

Wars, upon wars, in the past 4 or 5,000 years (or who knows how long) seem to have perpetuated, but drastically changed, the purpose of a male and a female mating and the violence that it might have been associated with in terms of 'rape'. As the human psyche 'evolved', I think that the act of rape, still combined with ancient old genes, was becoming more of an act of domination and sexual gratification among males of all cultures.

The past 100 or 200 years saw the act of the rape of a female become a no-no; although not in all cultures. Humans had changed but what if the instinctive act of mating with a female, with or without consent - violently if need be or not, was still residing in the hereditary genes of so many males?
