Zelensky For First Time Offers Russia A Realistic Step To Negotiating A Ceasefire

As FT wrote, "If Moscow and Kyiv agreed to end strikes on their respective energy infrastructures, it would be a significant step towards de-escalating the conflict, Zelenskyy said in reference to Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries."

"We saw during the first (peace) summit that there could be a decision on energy security," he explained to reporters. "In other wordsβ€”we do not attack their energy infrastructures; they don't attack ours. Could this lead to the end of the war's hot phase? I think so."

This marks a first such known overture of this nature, and comes at a crucial moment that the Ukrainian population is bracing for a harsh winter, given especially the rolling blackouts, frequent emergency power outages, and severely damaged power grid.

The last year of war has seen Russian aerial attacks primarily focus on degrading Ukraine's power infrastructure, including knocking offline key thermal power plants, which has resulted in some 60% of Ukraine's power generation being disabled.

This has left the war-ravaged country primarily reliant on nuclear power and imports from European partners.

On the other side of the battle lines, the last several months have seen Russian oil and energy facilities, as well as some military bases and ammo storage depots, get hammered by cross-border drone attacks from Ukraine.

Russia's defense ministry has been reporting almost nightly drone intercepts over Russian territory. Large fires at oil depots in Russia's southern oblasts have now become a monthly reality.

It seems Ukraine may have been engaged in such risky escalations of these cross-border strikes precisely to build leverage at a future negotiating table. But it remains that Russia's vast energy infrastructure has barely been dented, and the situation inside Russia is far from desperate, especially compared to Ukraine's crisis.

Regardless of what Zelensky wants, Putin/Kremlin wants all of Ukraine if they can but, after the US elections, we'll see what happens as "experts" seem to think if Trump wins they'll be more than a ceasefire in the Russia/Ukraine war & an actual end to it.

I wonder how long it will take both sides to rebuild. The poor soldiers. πŸ˜”

Putin needs to get it in his head the soviet union is dead. Modern Russia has a third world military. Lol
Conventional military...it's getting better. They are learning from mistakes...building drones....using glide bombs now which are VERY effective at wiping out whole brigades at a time...they have always been good at artillery...and let's not forget nuclear missiles ( 5000). Add to this the sheer size of Russia...and it is hard for Ukraine to even bother them at all. Now they are getting allies to send troops. Sorry but they are very capable of causing MUCH trouble and should not be underestimated. ( I am ex-Nato - Germany one should never underestimate them....they hate to lose wars so if they come anywhere close to losing the nukes will fly! ) I am for Ukraine but I am also realistic. Ukraine can NOT survive a long stalemated war. Not enough manpower. And their energy grid is 50% destroyed as it is.

If the Russians had completely destroyed Ukraine's energy infrastructure, as the US/NATO did in Iraq, this war would have ended a long time ago.

But as always, the Russians always looking for acceptance, will again fall into the same mistake by believing in the parasitic country that is Ukraine, which as soon as it has the opportunity, will stab anyone in the back as it has always done throughout its miserable existence.

You couldn't beat the Vietnamese, north Korea or camel fuckers like Afghanistan yet you think you can conquer nuclear armed Russia? A country with an actual airforce, missiles and men? Typical American dipshit hubris. America is now the third world, your GDP is less than Russia, even tho it's sanctioned πŸ˜‚

No I don't think anything about a war with Russia, but I do know that if the US invaded Ukraine it would have been over in two weeks. Lol.

War with Russia is not what anybody wants.

The title here is nonsense. The elephant in the room is this: the Kremlin does not even recognize that Ukraine as it's own sovereign nation even has a right to exist!

It's really hilarious how so many Trumpers believe their own bullshit. None of this came to fruition, and only those who ever entertained the idea that it would just because Trump would come to office, were all fucking delusional.

They believed he could get Putin to back down. Trump himself believed his one bullshit, now he's pissed at Putin over his own delusional stupidity.

Idk why people call them "experts" but, the war has definitely raged on regardless of Trump being back in the White House... very true.
I think they were saying it as they were hopeful he (or someone) would stop funding Ukraine with so much from the US coffers as well as from our US arsenal, playing on what they believed would cator to US Voter's wishes. That's what happens when people run for office. They say whatever they think will get them elected and why they're said to have all fallen pretty short of what they said they were going to do if elected once they're in.

Putin has had a plan for Russia since he was very young because it was so bad before & I don't think the US should be as involved with their war as we are but, heck if I know what really goes on over in their part of the world & I'm quiet biased when it comes to anything to do with US - Russia relations and definitely anything to do with Putin in particular.

Yeah, politicians always talk dumb shit that most sensible people realize they will never actually do. Because. Well. Reality check!

They can't ACTUALLY DO half the stuff they say they want to. That's not how a bicameral legislative Republic even works. And even if it were an authoritarian dictatorship, what the leader says what he wants to do, and what he CAN do, are two entirely different things.

Inexperienced politicians get into office, then they realize:

"Oh. Shit! This is a lot harder than I thought it was, and there's no way I can do what I promised."

I'll tell ya the biggest thing I really fucking HATE about Trump, is his constant use of overly exaggerated declarations:

"Always, the best, the greatest, the greatest ever, the best in history." And his opposites for describing people and events he doesn't like: "the worst, never," etc.

And grown ass adults don't even bother even pausing for one second with that kind of idiotic stupidity.

As for Putin, I don't give a flying fuck what his perspective is on anything. He's a grown ass man, the leader of a large power in the 21st fucking century. A quarter of the way through the 21st century. And Ukraine literally didn't do jack shit to Russia or the Russian people.

The world is far more heavily populated by unarmed, innocent civilians than ever before. The world has no room for war pigs like Putin and Netanyahu. The only thing I can say for Trump that's positive..... Other than illegally murdering an entire nation's science leadership and a general like a fucking criminal mob boss, at least Trump is no Netanyahu, Putin, or Bush II. And at least he FINALLY is seeing Putin for what he really is:

A mass murdering fucking criminal. Which is why we DO need to supply Ukraine. Much better to use a bunch of expensive resources now, giving Ukraine the means to implement these deadly delaying tactics, and buy the world some time that, maybe......MAYBE! the Russian leadership will eventually come to their fucking senses. Putin is old AF, just like Trump is. And dinosaurs don't live forever. Ukraine delaying Russia 's ability to pause and start rebuilding itself after a clear victory, only pushes Putin's next target on his agenda back further and further.

Basically, if the war ended right now, Russia would have YEARS ahead of itself to rebuild and rearm its military. It can't even start doing that until after this war is over. So the longer it goes on, and the more Russian troops and equipment that can be annihilated, the longer it will take before they start to rebuild, and the longer the rebuild would take.

If you're lucky your kids will grow up to shoot Russians instead of each other in a McDonalds car park over some fat welfare queen.

Actually, his staff try to tell him and often, when he says things like that, umm, you can't actually do that Mr. President but, then they would get fired. So, now those that remain... they just let him yack it up in any recorded televised speaking engagement and then try to deal with the fallout afterward. If folks haven't caught on, he's not necessarily running the show like he seems to quite obviously think in his mind he is. It's turned American politics into quite the farce domestically & especially internationally. But, they should stop watching our politicians & watch their own for a change anyway.
There is so much that goes on behind the scenes thankfully but, I don't know how you can watch very much of Trump really or any of them.

Lol, I have thought of US Presidents as exactly like being mafioso bosses since I was a child. Sadly, they gotta be like that. So many things happen the public is unaware of it would probably make most realize that's actually a closer fitting analogy, it would scare them. This world is far from being ideal & the haves & have nots are always at each other, somewhere in the world. It is quite hostile & very volitile.
Don't you think the Europeans should be paying for much more in defense, to include assisting Ukrainian efforts, NATO obligations, etc., than the USA? There's been talk, by even Trump I think too, of leaving NATO... Give our 1 year notice to vacate and we freaking ought to!
Ukraine remaining Ukraine should mean more to the Europeans than us so, why tf are Americans paying so much versus them? Riddle me that Batman.

You say Trump illegally murdered them, the Iranians you mean but, what of their continued vow and plots to assassinate him? Is he not allowed to defend himself? Fuck! If someone were trying to kill you and NGL, you sounds as if no one has ever even tried but, let's say they were... after a couple of attempts or even just one, if you decided to use what you have at your disposal to annihilate them and hopefully, quash any future endeavors they may have to kill you, I'd say good for you my fellow countrymen & I wouldn't ever call you a murderer for having done so.
If no ones ever taught you this, listen up... someone comes to kill you & yours, you go ahead & shoot first & ask questions later Nihilianth, just so you don't end up the one dead.

As an American, do you think you or I are kept at all apprised of what is really going on with Ukraine & Russia? Our best analysts don't always know much. Russia doesn't necessarily share anything with anyone else intel-wise like most countries & even Ukraine has stated openly they have done plenty of operations without the USA being informed whatsoever prior.

In these changing times, antiquated military equipment and an aging military force (avg age of Russian active duty military = approx. 38) can either be assimilated or used towards a goal so, until they (Russia, Moscow, Putin) accomplish that, I don't think they give a fig and they have calculated that out already. They will rationalize it somehow.
Here in the USA, as a reward for interfering... well we're now maneuvering our submarines and Navy around & closer to having to engage in large scale warfare then I think we've been in more than 40 or 50 years. 😐
