Trailer for above film.

Stoker. 2013.
10/10
A slow dark family drama directed by Park Chan Wook (Oldboy). Not a easy film to get your head around but beautiful to watch the way scenes unfold. Iv seen it twice thru and although i didn't understand it the first time, after watching alot of head scratching cinema i can appreciate it more now.

The man from nowhere. 2010. South Korea.
4/10
A slow paced crime thriller, had some depth to it but even just after 20 mins i was getting bored. By the time the one hour mark was reached (halfway) i had pretty much lost interest. It basicly centered around a little girl being kidnapped by a drug gang and a pawnshop owner, (ex special forces, of course.) who is friendly to her and gets dragged into a bigger situation.

Confessions. 2010. Japan.
Drama.
9/10.
A teacher has her only child murdered and she takes her revenge out on the students that she knows are guilty of the crime.
This was not a typical revenge film, it was mainly told thru a series of flashbacks and overdubs. The opening scene in the classroom was mainly her laying out the whole crime and some of her personal 'history'. That in itself was 25 mins.
From there the teens kinda turned on each other, there were a few characters to keep a track of, but it was the jumping around style of the film that made it difficult but not impossible to watch. No doubt about it thou, it was bleak. Even the colour tone of the whole film was a grey blue.

The green elephant. 1999. Russia.
4/10.
A very underground low budget film that had the look and feel similar to August Underground Mordum. Unlike that movie thou, which is just a pile of agressive 'torture' scenes. This film starts with two men in a leaky basement. It's unknown why they are there, but it soon becomes apparent that they are in the army and in prison. The dialouge at the start consists of one of them trying to cheer the other up. Gradually two more characters are involved.
I couldn't rate this movie any higher than a four due to the strangeness of the whole thing. It was like watching two men go completly mad. Unique because of the way the scenes at the start just play out with a lack of edits in a very small space. Some of the scenes were pretty bizzare, one guy shits on a plate and then offers to the other guy after smearing it on his chest and near the end one bloke 'attacks' the officer, strips him, bites and draws blood, pretends to fuck him 'doggy style' and guts him.

A Serbian Film. 2010. Serbia.
10 outta fucken 10!!!
A middle aged pornstar is offered alot of money for a unknown new style of film.
This film set out what it wanted to do. Fuck the veiwer up. The 'uproar' about this film was and is to me, laughable.
Iv read a few interviews with the director about what the film was trying to say or meant, i couldn't see any of that.
To me it's a horror film in the purest sense, people who complain about it, if your not 'required' to see it as a paid film critic, are just using the internet to whine on about something.
I put this film on, along with Salo once a year and enjoy it for what is.
Classic cinema. In the words of Vukmir the director in the film. (slow clap) "Bravo, bravo!!"

Parasite. 2019. South Korea.
10 outta fucken 10!!
A low income family 'moves in' with a rich one.
Bong Joon Ho has directed a few films that iv watched, The Host, Mother, Memories of murder and they are pretty good. This latest one is quite deserving of the praise it is getting. The first hour has a slightly comical feel to it, when they all get jobs things take on a darker turn. It's quite a twist in the film you don't see coming and it factors alot into the second hour. The tension builds and the climatic ending is sad as it is deserving for all involved. Definitely a film i would watch again.
