(This is my first post so apologies if it isn't in the right place)
I've read a bit about so called "selective empathy" and am very curious to hear others opinions. I feel this is a good place to ask. I don't know if I believe in the idea that it's unique, seeing as in many situations I believe everyone has a different level of empathy towards different things. Some articles say it's a sign of a psychopath, but it is said a psychopath has no empathy at all. I find it very interesting how a person, including myself, can have very little to no feeling at all when it comes to strangers being hurt or dying, or hurting someone else, but can't handle seeing someone they care for, or more commonly a child or animal in distress. I feel like alot of people I've seen on websites such as this have the same reaction when it comes to seeing animal/child abuse. The stimga of these sites is that we are all sick and twisted, but I've seen some of the most caring people in places like this. Some of the most empathetic people I've ever met, have done some of the sickest things. I guess I'm just curious how many people believe in selective empathy. I'm still doing research because I can't figure out if I believe it's real or just a bunch of over thought medical nonsense. 🤔🧐
