Titane. 2021. France.

A dancer has 'sex' with a car, murders people, gets adopted by a fire station captain who lost his son at a young age.
Surreal film from the director of RAW, Julia Ducournau. The opening 10 mins give you an idea of what to expect in regards to the body horror aspect of the film. From there it doesn't follow a strict logical plot. There are some long scenes done in one take that are well done and the intensity of some scenes made me cringe a bit which i fully appreciated.
When she meets the fire station captain it develops into a film about him trying to fill the gap left by his son and his need to stay on top physically while she tries to hide the fact she's a pregnant woman. Kinda lost me a bit after the hour mark, but still a great film with excellent direction and acting.

A hitman kills a boss and his younger brother, another ruthless killer, is going to kill him.
Ultra violent action film set mostly in Bangkok Thailand. Part of the plot is he want to find a little girl that is his daughter, after her mother was murdered. She is being held and sold for organ harvesting. The film is action heavy with little in the way of suspense or plot twists. Just ALOT of violence involving fists, knifes and guns. The editing in the action scenes isn't choppy there is a clear view of whats happening which makes the film more engaging. Near the end it kind of apparent what will happen but still for the most interesting.

The Deep House. 2021.

Haunted house underwater.
A young couple who explore abandoned building get invited to see a little known house submerged underwater. Driven by the fact they will get 'lots of views' when they upload the footage the take their cameras and proceed.
Directed and written by the french duo that make the classic Inside, the film is a brisk 85 mins. The plot moves nicely along and is a mix of 'found footage and traditional film making. The bulk of the film is filmed underwater which is although it appears grimy adds a level of suspense.
There are a couple of intentional jump scares and a some what familiar storyline, but the tension is slowly racheted up in a compelling way.

A dirty carnival. 2006. South Korea.

A mid level gangster with a crew gives up information that ends up in a film.
Slow film with some brutal fight scenes but what seems like a padded plot that results in a film lasting just over two hours. When he gets rid of a lawyer to help the top boss, he unwittingly tells a film director who includes it in his 'gangster' film. Then his family comes into play, characters in his crew and upper bosses, a love interest, rival gangs. Nothing really stands out as a solid thru line and the film them dipped into scenes that didn't really have happening and any momentum was lost, only to get going when the lead was advancing his way up.

Two clowns and a woman.
A young lad whose father is a clown near the end of WW2 in Spain becomes a clown himself later in life. He begins a friendship with a fellow circus act whose is the girlfriend of the owner, the other clown who is abusive to her and others.
The film is darkly funny, but tends a little more to lunatic violence due to the main characters being 'clowns'. The both have a interest in the woman and when she seems to relate to both they end up going quite nuts. Interesting film that seemed to have a 'revenge' love triangle plot.

A couple get divorced.
Black comedy directed by Danny De Vito staring Micheal Douglas and Kathleen Turner. De Vito narrates the film to a new client as events play out. It starts with them meeting each other and then years later with kids and the house the eventually live in. The film slowly gets darker as they just grow apart and little things become an issue. The actual 'divorce' proceeding begins around the 1 hour mark with the rest of the film devoted to a slow decline into oblivion. Turner and Douglas have a pretty equal share of the time on screen which allows the viewer to see and empathize with both points of view. Elements of horror in the way certain scenes are shot add to the humor and there is a abundance laugh out loud moments.

Doctor. 2021. India.

A army doctor sets out to rescue a little girl for a family whose daughter rejects him for marriage.
The film has a simple plot, rescue a little girl who was kidnapped for human trafficking. From there it's not a complicated story, but a layered one that with a very stylistic presentation.
Police are largely ignored and are shown to pretend to give a shit, but everyone knows their overwhelmed.
It follows the layers of criminals up the ladder, first their buffoonish, then rough and kinda smart, ruthless and effective, then the top are smart and very well protected. All the while there is alot humour and the fight scenes are very light hearted, even near the end when people get shot, it has a dance style to it. It does bring up the 'humanity' angle every so often, as the main character decides to get all the kidnapped girls, not just one.
Entertaining film with a run time of just over 2 hours that had a nice balance of humour and heart.

A dialogue heavy film set in a police station with some action and humour throughout. What seems like 'random' characters turn out to be linked as the film progresses.
The plot was steady but failed to ignite my interest, by the 35 min mark i started clicking thru to the random gunfights excluding all the dialogue.

Starring Bruce Campbell as 'Elvis' who has the defeat the mummy. Slow to start and doesn't really get any better. There are funny moments throughout but very little else to keep the interest.

I loved that movie but it’s a lots of beers and quite a few joints movie.
