Calm down. These 300 000 men they need for the Ukraine only, because with current troops there is impossible to win anything - Ruskies are retreating and loosing already. They have shown how weak they actually are and if ruskies can't win even Ukraine, then against NATO they have 0 chance.

Our weapons are by far superior, but our military is undersized and improperly trained/staffed for effective combat readiness. Russia isn't much of a threat alone, but they will be attacking with China and possibly N.K. or Iran. We had 900,000 more members during Desert Storm than we have today. We also only have 245 active ships, down from 471. We need to be at 500 to maintain effective readiness, but we don't even have enough reserve members to fill those ships, nor ready our mothball fleets.
At least you've got a fleet! Our Navy consists of rubber dinghies that the illegal immigrants left on the beaches at Dover.

The problem is not with 300K of mobilized people. They are still untrained, unprepared, and not motivated. Ukraine, with their current equipment, experience, and tactics will not flinch about some extra cannon fodder from the other side.
The problem is that putin also announced that they are going to do referendums on all occupied territories in the next week. That means that they are going to annex these lands and proclaim them russian territories. That will untie their hands in using nuclear weapons to protect them. He said today that he is not bluffing about that.
So, no one is going into conventional war with each other. No point in comparing number of troops and air carriers. If russia starts dropping nuclear bomb even only on Ukraine, then all Europe might become a radioactive desert. But putin, like a rat in the corner, might go further and preempt against the whole Western world.

Yes, if he's backed into a corner, or perceives that he's been backed into a corner, he does have the balls to launch he's "ex" KGB. Even if you don't think he has the balls or just wouldn't do it for some reason, is the threat of nuclear war something you really wanna call a bluff on? If he does launch, you can bet other countries will launch. MAD protocals will be in effect at that point, and I'm not sure if anything will survive.
When Biden yanked our troops out of the middle east in the blink of an eye I kenw right then it was because we were about to be in another war all together. We and the rest of NATO have no business getting involved in this, let them have Ukraine and keep my tax dollars and countrymen out of it.

300K with military war experience?
Majority of russians with more or less recent war experience, like those who were on the contract or in private military units, already are or were in Ukraine and already either dead or back home with injuries. putin has annihilated his whole professional army in the last 6 months. All his elite and most prepared forces do not exist any more.
There are of course still people that took part in more distant russian wars, like Chechen ones. But there are not too many of them, and not all of them by far are actually well trained. Those wars for russia were same kind of screw-ups as this one with, just on a much smaller and more contained scale.
On TV, putin can say many things for a good picture and to avoid panic among people. It doesn't mean that's what they will and able to do.
Funny thing. After putin's announcement, the most trending web searches is "how to break your won hand". Also, looks like russians instantly bought all available air tickets to Turkey and Armenia.
I have not checked these facts myself, but this is consistent with the general mood in russia right now. Very few people believe in putin's war and virtually no one, who is left, wants to go to war.
