bizarre All Weather Protection Riding

Been riding for years, can't even begin to describe some of the unique ways riders avoided getting wet or trying to protect themselves when rain hits.
Isn't that pretty much the same as attaching a pipe to your exhaust and pumping it into the car?
I know that's almost the opposite of what you described but still.
