Two Wheels

I finally got around to doing some stuff to my bike. I re-jetted the carburetor with a 145 main jet (up from 140 stock), adjusted the valves to the proper specs (they were WAY too tight and I was floating my exhaust valve), installed an adjustable needle and a new idle fuel mixture screw and I removed the air box cover and the intake snorkel to tidy up the air flow. I also put my aluminum skid plate on and removed the flimsy stock hand guards.

The new main jet and idle fuel mixture screw. It took me about three hours of swearing and drilling to remove the horrid stock screws that held on the float bowl and top cap. Shitty cheap metal and ridiculous torque specs are a nightmarish combination. I replaced them with some nice stainless hex-head screws. There is something indescribably sexy about the Mikuni BST-40...

It definitely sounds like a big bore thumper now that the air box is opened up. The throttle is much more snappy now and the power band is a lot broader now. I can get up to 70mi/h in fourth gear with all of fifth gear available now when that used to be the absolute max it could do. It still needs an entire weekend of tweaking to get it where I want it but the improvement so far with only a $75 jet kit and a free valve adjustment is mind blowing. I'm going to try to get my new handlebar and throttle tube installed this weekend.

Magneti Marelli ECU available to all MotoGP™ teams from 2013

Wednesday, 26 September 2012
Magneti Marelli will give all competitors in the MotoGP™ premier-class the option to utilise the Italian company’s Electronic Control System on their racing machines from 2013.
This landmark four-year agreement will give all teams access to Magneti Marelli’s electronic control system, which includes an engine and chassis control unit with inboard datalogger, as well as the relevant tuning and data analysis tools, dashboard, handlebar toggle switch and inertial platform. This system, representing the highest technological option in Magneti Marelli’s portfolio, will be backed up by a permanent presence of its technicians on track, as well as continual development and evolution at its MotoGP-specific R&D centre as its Bologna headquarters, which will be set up specifically in light of this agreement.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna CEO, is thrilled with this latest cooperation: "I cannot hide the fact that I am very happy with this new cooperation with Magneti Marelli. The agreement reached with the Italian company merely validates MotoGP as a competition that incorporates and encourages the latest and most innovative technology. The experience of this company, which has spent many years at the highest level of competition in motor sport, represents a major step in the premier-class of two-wheel racing."
Roberto Dalla, Magneti Marelli Motorsport Managing Director, added: "We are very glad to share our know-how and experience in the motorsport field with MotoGP, in order to jointly achieve new objectives in terms of performance and technology development. The main aim is to provide top technology at affordable costs, which is Magneti Marelli’s mission firstly in racing and also in the field of series production. Magneti Marelli has been developing solutions in the electronics and electro-mechanics area for MotoGP teams for the last decade: this new initiative with Dorna represents a further strategic opportunity to enhance the development of our technology."

Pedrosa on title chances and Stoner comeback

Thursday, 27 September 2012
Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa took time out his schedule before the Gran Premio Iveco de Aragón to visit fans in Barcelona, where he spoke exclusively to motogp.com about the final part of the season.
The Wednesday evening before heading inland to the popular Aragón circuit, Pedrosa was greeting fans and handing out autographs in an event staged by personal sponsors Alpinestars. It was there that he told motogp.com that despite his deficit of 38 point to Lorenzo after the disastrous last race, there is still everything to play for: “All races are important and so far we have tried to fight to the fullest. This is another important race, and we’ll try to carry on as before, riding well. Aragón is a nice track, where I hope to have many fans to encourage us.”
Speaking on the imminent comeback of his injured teammate Casey Stoner, and whether the Australian could be of any help in his title challenge, the Spaniard said: “We will have to see in what condition he comes back, how he is physically and what his pace is. Now, it is difficult to know whether or not it can be a help, but he is certainly a rider who wants to win races.”
Whether or not he predicts a close final in Valencia is tough for Pedrosa to say at this point: “Well, we are at Aragón before and after that there are four races remaining, so I have to go one by one and try to do my best until the last race.”

He took that like a champ. I've almost done that before. I was hooning around a little too fast and came up to a stop sign with a big brotruck waiting to turn left. He looked right at me and pulled out anyway so I almost locked both brakes and shifted from fourth to first to engine brake and just missed his back bumper by less than a foot. I left a 15 foot skid mark on the pavement and in my pants.

That is fucking awesome. I wonder if he left a little leftover oil in it to give it that extra kick.

I have liked the layout of this track from the start even tho it looks a bit busy in the middle ( banking ? ). I hope you gonna post lotsa pics bud.
