This is just how China is all the time. They had state sponsored cannibalism in the 1960's during the Cultural Revolution when the Red Guard ate their teachers, and that was the least of their problems in the 20th century. They have weathered famines, plagues, economic collapse, anarchism, warlords, colonialism, invasion, war, natural disasters, state-sponsored abortions, mass rape, genocide, etc. All within the last 100 years. China doesn't collapse it simply shape-shifts, it has been around in bassically the form it still is today since before the Roman Empire albeit without Communism but serfdom is bassically the same thing under a different name.
