Nails aren't a good idea for a fighting stick. If you drive one good into bone it will get stuck and require a bit of effort to work it out. Losing the use of your fighting stick even just for a second or two could get you cranked or prevent you from defending one of your team mates or missing out on an MVP play. You could also snag it on something as your swinging.

It would be OK for a beating stick. You kind of have the luxury of time for that.

A good quality, hardwood closet pole with no adornments other than something to improve your grip is plenty sufficient for getting shit done. If you really feel the need for a little extra, smear the business end in epoxy resin or windshield urethane and roll it in broken glass.
