That's an excellent question. You see, this man had stolen a very valuable ring. When asked to return it, he chose to swallow the ring. The ring's owner had no choice but to perform this surgery to retrieve his property. Therefore, most of the procedure has already been performed. Now it's just a matter of repacking and stitching him up. (You can trust me - I googled it.)
