Because Ireland had 2 different religions, Protestant and catholics, the Protestants were mainly in the north east (now called Northern Ireland) but the catholics didn’t like that, so the British partitioned the land to stop the fighting (ni and Ireland) but the catholics didn’t like that, so they started terrorist activities, so the Protestants wanted back under the safety of the British,

Australia, under Albenese, the Labor party (equivalent to US Democrats or Justin's little band, ditto Labor party in UK). has been pushing a hard anti Israel line. We have had weekly pro Gaza marches with ISIS flags etc. New laws introduced last week to ban them under terrorism laws.

I'd imagine the Irish gov. is progressive left.

Personally, I think Israel is the ray of hope in the middle east, along with maybe UAE, Saudi... Egypt?

The history of the Middle East between Israel and all its neighbors is always the same thing: which came first, the egg or the chicken?
So, people root for Israel but forget what the consequences of these same wars are: where do the refugees go?

I know of the weapons shipped from the usa, mostly guns from the American south I think, but this didn't add to the context as to why Ireland supports Palestine so I didn't mention it. The IRA also made use of many home brewed weapons, if I recall correctly there was a sort of tin can mortar or rocket launcher thing they used quite commonly, the projectiles being made of recycled soup cans filled with explosives. I also remember reading a story about a cache of German machine guns from WWII found in an Irish river recently, many suspect an IRA connection.

I don't remember much about The Troubles but I do remember that I had a crush on Bernadette Devlin. Of course that was in the early 70's and she's 77 years old now.
