Washington | President Donald Trump wants the United States to take over the Gaza Strip and assume responsibility for redeveloping the war-torn territory after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere.
Mr Trump unveiled his stunning plan, without providing specifics, at a joint press conference with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a move that would shatter decades of US policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too,” Mr Trump said on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT).
“We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out.”
He said he wanted to create “economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area”.

The president suggested he would be open to deploying US troops to secure the area, saying he would “do what is necessary”, and added that he saw the US presence in the contested territory as a “long-term ownership position”. The New York real estate developer painted a vision of a “Riviera of the Middle East” with “world-class” construction projects.
“Gaza is a hellhole right now. It was before the bombing started, frankly, and we’re going to give people a chance to live in a beautiful community that’s safe and secure. I don’t want to be cute, I don’t want to be a wise guy but the Riviera of the Middle East, this could be something.”
The president said he had spoken to Middle East leaders and they “love the idea”. Mr Trump also repeated his calls for other nations in the region to take in Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, despite neighbouring countries stating publicly they were not interested in doing so.
This time, however, Mr Trump said he would support resettling Palestinians “permanently”, going beyond his previous suggestions that Arab leaders had already steadfastly rejected.
Forced displacement of Gaza’s population would likely be a violation of international law and would be fiercely opposed not only in the region but also by Washington’s Western allies.
Mr Trump made the provocative comments at the start of his meeting with Mr Netanyahu at the White House, where the two leaders also discussed the fragile ceasefire and hostage deal in the Israeli-Hamas conflict.
Much of Gaza is in ruins after Israel’s 15-month war in response to the Hamas-led attacks of October 7, 2023, which is now in the six-week ceasefire.

Netanyahu entertains idea

Mr Netanyahu seemed to entertain Mr Trump’s ownership idea, but stopped short of fully endorsing the proposal, which, if pursued, would represent a dramatic new US intervention in the Middle East and upend decades of foreign policy doctrine.
Mr Netanyahu, who acknowledged Mr Trump as the “greatest friend Israel has ever had”, said his view on taking over Gaza was different but that he was also considering the merits of it.
“President Trump is taking it to a much higher level. He sees a different future for that piece of land that has been the focus of so much terrorism,” Mr Netanyahu said.
“I think it’s worth paying attention to this. We’re talking about it. He’s exploring it with his people, with his staff. I think it’s something that could change history.”
Mr Netanyahu is facing competing pressure from his right-wing coalition to end a temporary truce against Hamas militants in Gaza and from war-weary Israelis who want the remaining hostages home and for the conflict to end.
The president was asked by a reporter what authority he has to take over a sovereign territory, and he replied that he’s studied the matter closely for months.
“I do see a long-term ownership position, and I see it bringing great stability to that part of the Middle East, and maybe the entire Middle East,” Mr Trump said.
The White House’s focus on the future of Gaza’s more than 2 million residents comes as the nascent truce between Israel and Hamas hangs in the balance as negotiations begin on the next phase of the ceasefire.
Earlier on Tuesday Mr Trump signed an executive order to withdraw the US from the United Nations Human Rights Council.
During his first term as president, Trump also cut ties with the UNHRC, an organisation that US leaders from both parties have long said has a bias against Israel.

You can loathe the man or like the man but always expect the unexpected from Trump and plenty of whining/tears.

MAGA#
I think Trump has mastered the press.

What he said the other day means nothing at all the next time he says something that blows it away. The press just don't know where to look.

I'm an Aussie, and proud of it too, but I think Trump is a much better option than 4 more years under Harris.

The woke are going to organise a mass suicide over this and the spectacle of it will be wondrous to behold!

Expensive and the 'stinians are gonna turn it right back into a shithole, $0 for Gaza sounds perfect. Let them live in their own filth.

I think Trump said that the 'stinians are going to have to fuck off to all those 'humanitarians countries' by which I think he means Iran as no one else will take the cunts.

Our Australian prime minister, Albenese, would love to take them all as he is worrying about bleeding votes from inner city Greens party seats at the election here which must come before May 17th.

But just too late now.

I love what Trump has done here. Really love it. Gaza, right on the Med, should be a wonderful place to live but it has been taken over for decades by Hamas. Fuck Hamas and all hail Netenyahoo and Trump.

And any one who hates Jews can blow me...

Ben Gurion Canal Project, a proposed canal in the 60's that would be an alternative to the suez canal allowing two way traffic. Crossing into Israel and Gaza. If the US owned Gaza the canal project could be a reality and potential be extremely valuable asset to Israel and the US, another Panama canal.

Someone doesn't understand how international laws work Oh America, watching this madman is fascinating.
Someone thinks "international law" actually means something. International law is just simple agreements between nations with no real way to enforce them. Only ignorant fools believe otherwise. International law is a toothless dog.

Besides that who could even enforce them against America.

I'll be interested in those Australian elections going forward

He didn't actually say that, and he clarified himself. I've seen the comments.

And there were no semantics to justify saying he recommended "ethnic cleansing " llol

Oh that's al Jazeera, the go to for al Queda. Makes more sense now.

It's actually not "mad" ,he knows what the fuck he's doing.
I know he does. Which is good. But what else is he up too. I'm sure there is something else that's going to arise in the future if he does have America taking it. I reckon NO Palestinians will be allowed back in. 🤣😅
They will take out ALL Hamas one by one. Then give Israeli people the land to live. Fuck knows. I'm not sure WHY he is doing it, well, wanting too.

The Donald moves in mysterious ways.

Some of the things he does are quite predictable but then there is stuff like this that just comes out of left field. I'm sure the thought of leveling Gaza has crossed everybody's mind at one point or another but we never thought that somebody would actually put it on the table. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was a psyop intended to increase and monitor chatter to find out who is talking to who and who is moving what to where then follow up with a massive barrage of precision strikes around the world.

Haven't heard anything about Mike Flynn and Space Force since Trump returned to office. Flynn is an intelligence and cyber security expert and intelligence gathering is one of one of the duties of Space Force. I've been suspecting for awhile that Mike Flynn and Elon Musk are working behind the scenes with Space Force gathering evidence against globalists, terrorists, cartels and our own corrupt and Marxist politicians. Starlink is a dual purpose technology perhaps.

I believe DOGE is is just the tip the iceberg regarding Elon's role in Trump's administration and that he is our 21st century Howard Hughes. Hughes, working under the CIA designed and built the "Glomar Explorer". A ship which was built under the guise of being a deep sea mining and prospecting vessel back in the early 70s. Its true purpose was to locate and recover a sunken Russian submarine that was thought by the Russians to be too deep at the time for anyone to access it or let alone haul it up. I don't recall how much of the sub was actually recovered. They lost a section of it that broke off while raising it.

Cyber Security/Intelligence Expert + Space Tech Expert + Space Force = President Trump: "We have it all. We have everything. It's going to be beautiful, You will love it. We got them all. It's going to be amazing."

I don't remember exactly what he said but it was delivered in his typical fashion and he never eluded as to what "everything" is.

The way I am seeing it now I believe he is working to stabilize the country first and put nuisance countries like Iran to heel before he goes in for the big kill against our own bad actors.

I think it is a good possibility he is up to something like that.
