When I was a young social worker in mental heatlh I was sent round to this guys house as he'd missed his medication for months. This was during the time of deinstitionisation and he'd kind of dropped through the cracks.

He opened the door, asked me in and then closed it, locked it and put the key in his pocket. I sat down next to a nice big heavy stone ashtray with the plan to brain him if the shit hit the fan. He had sunken, dark rimmed eyes, looked very unwell, and said he was not interested in any meds.

I said 'Great. I'll let them know you're all well now...'

He then let me out...

Jesus... I look back now and if I was the manager I would never have let someone go alone! Madness!

I love these old psychiatric interviews, I used to binge watch them for sampling purposes, and still watch the odd modern one when they come up (just have to sift through all the actors in training videos)

Really fascinating! I got pretty stuck a while back for a couple of days, wasn't full on catatonic, and not schizophrenic either (MDD with psychotic symptoms)
