so was this 14 yo car working or was it just falling apart? Maybe both at the same time?
It just started getting so bad that the repairs were not worth keeping the car because they were becoming more expensive than the car was worth

I never understood this type of bullshit. Repairs were so bad it was better for me to spend $40000+ on a vehicle rather than spend about $1000 a yr. So in 10yrs, you’ll have spent $50000 just on finance plus you’ll be repairing it again which will be at minimum $1000 a job. Yea that makes sense 🤣

I like this post :) Nothing wrong with being frugal though. Lots of things on that list do make sense. There's a difference between living smart, frugal or being cheap. Basically, not overspending means I can save up and then proceed to spend that extra money on friends, family and animal shelters.

Also, I don't really care about appearances; I like being comfortable and efficient. So I wear basic clothing, combined with band merch which helps the artist, I meal prep once a week, so I might have spaghetti two days in a row, but I can just heat it up and be sure I like it. Also there's no crap in there. All those quick trips to the store would make be buy stuff I don't need, so I go once a week.

There's no shame in that. I pity people that feel they need to have the newest and most expensive stuff to flaunt, it's exhausting. Spending money you don't have might be very stressful as well, I wouldn't know though.

This is why you will never become a millionaire. If the car is only worth $3000 and the repairs are going to be $5000 plus tax then it does not pay to keep the car anymore. I had the car for 14 years. I was able to save up a lot of money so the next car I paid cash.

My truck is a 2014. I’ll continue to dump money into it over buying a $90k truck that in 10yrs? I’ll be repairing it…never become a millionaire? Sorry but I’ll be one very soon

I’m of the mindset that spending more on a thing (depending what it is) generally makes it a better product.

Some things are obvious that you’re paying for the brand. But within that brand you find better quality stitching and materials and better longevity. To me, that is worth paying a bit more for, which actually saves money down the road with less frequent replacements.
