I don't disagree, .308 is a great round. Even better is the .338. But the round used to whack Charlie, was a 30-06. Both rounds are very close in terms of ftps, right around 2600 from the ole muzzle.

I edited my comment for clarity. I meant more distance. Agree the 3006 is perfect for 200 yards. I think the .308 is a better round for mid distance and of course the .338 lapua takes it to .50 territory. I hunted mule deer for years with a Sako 06 and Elk with a Sako .308. Both fine rounds bit the .308 helped taking down horse sized Elk.

My comments come from that experience and from talking to long range shooters at the range and charts. I don’t have actual experience or own the big boy’s so it’s worth what you paid for it.

I don’t really have a need for much more than shotguns for dove and the old mod 94 30-30 for Whitetail now, but I my dreams I own matching Barret’s in .338 Lapua and .50 cal. Why? Because they make them.

There was no surviving that shot no matter if the best doctors in the world were sitting right next to him to perform immediate care. 30.06 is a huge round from 110-220 grains….an AR-15 with the 5.56/.223 round is 55-77 grains….its even a bigger round than a .308. It’s not a common round except for hunters so, the FBI and all them know this and anyone who sold 30-06 ammo, will most likely know who they sold it to.
