A renowned 23-year-old rock climber died live on television after falling from El Capitan in Yosemite National Park (USA).

The victim's brother said he was climbing the 730-meter "Sea of Dreams" route. He was using a bottom belay technique, which allows for solo climbing.

Bottom belay... solo belaying. Obvously not much good in this situation.

I used to rock climb but not solo and mainly bottom belayed by a mate.

I really only enjoyed top roping belays really. Hated having to trust nuts, bolts and friends in little cracks.

Why solo climb when you can have a mate belay you I'll never know. Heroics? Ticking another one of your 'bucket list'? Likes on Face Fuck?

I was right. Instagram...

He fell off the end of his rope rappelling to free up a stuck bag.

strong looking little fucker though.

For any one wating to try rappelling, always tie a knot in the end of the rope. If that guy had done that he'd have slid down to a slolid stop and have sweated like hell whilst he thanked God he tied the knot. He'd then have given up on the bag and climbed back up.

Probably got all 'save the planet' about leaving the bag there in the first place...
