Serious Has anyone ever come across a dead body? If so what happened / what did you feel?

I “come across” them all the time - it’s part of my job to pronounce them and call for pick up of the bodies. I don’t feel anything for the bodies - it’s a shell. But I’m respectful and always handle with care. Who I feel bad for are the loved ones they leave behind. Though it may come as a relief because the person who has died is no longer suffering, it’s all still so surreal and unbearable for them to say goodbye forever.

I used to have frequent dreams coming across a body in the woods while running from something. The feelin was horrible especially at age 16 leaning over that man, helpless in both directions. Recently I had a similar dream with the same dreadful feeling in my gut. Figured at 21 I would be over that.
Anyways has me wondering if anyone had a real life encounter. How it made them feel and what circumstances were.
Only if your comfortable of corse.
When I was a teenager I once saw a van parked outside this house in just the street over while I was walking my dog. There was a couple blankets covering some stuff I the back of the van and the trunk was wide open. I didn't think much of it, thought maybe someone's going on a trip or something and packing up, even if it was like 2am.

And then when I came back around again to go towards the bakery, police were there at that van, and they moved the blankets, pointing flashlights, and two women were chopped up inside feet hands, head. All visible. I stopped and stared for a while and the cops just gave me a noncommittal nod. And after a minute of rubbernecking just walked home with my dog.

Neighbor later said apparently it was a mother and 15 year old daughter, likely chopped up by the husband who had gone missing. I stopped walking my dog at night alone after that.

I'm an ex cop. So in short - yes I've seen many dead bodies. Think the worst thing I had to see was my dad. He died of a heart attack in his car on the 12th of October 2024. My brother and I still carried him out of the car. That will probably stay with me for the rest of my life. Weird how people get taken from you when things are going well, when you least expect it. For the other bodies - I don't know, I guess in the uniform you kind of have this proffessional posture but when you get home, you can't help but sit and think about them. And then eventually it just goes away up until you saw more bodies. I got out of the police because of the corruption. Back then when weed was still illegal I didn't care about it. I just told people to smoke where ever they find a good spot. I never locked people up for petty shit either.

When growing up there was a kid in my town that disappeared. In all the papers, search teams daily, never found him.

The rumor mill said they’d seen him last down by the old jones mill. Some friends and I packed an overnight bag and walked the train tracks to get there, it was about a two day walk.

We told interesting stories around the campfire, one was about a local pie eating contest.

We nearly got our balls bitten off in an old junkyard by a dog, but we outran it.

had to cut cross country to another set of tracks, but had to wade through a bog. A friend got leeches on his bing bongs, not cool.

Finally found the missing kid. We didn’t do anything with him, just looked at him.

By the time we got back to town we were no longer boys. The trip had changed us forever and never spent time together as friends after that. Heard one of them was stabbed in the throat outside a night club.

Shiiiit thats fucked. Hope they got him ppl are evil. Good dog parent tho

Some guy almost OD'd on Fentanyl when I was about to take the bus home from work. I'm all sitting and waiting for the bus driver to finally peel out before I went "Fuck this, what's going on?". All of the sudden there's this grouping of people outside the back of the bus and I see this homeless fella down with the bus driver and other people watching. Some random guy ran up and gave him a narcan spray up his nose then fled away, but it wasn't enough yet to help. Firefighters and Paramedics came over to the scene, giving him two more narcan sprays and did some other stuff I don't remember well.

They managed to stabilize him and carried him away. On one hand I was definitely scared for the dude, on the other I almost did some dickhead shit like pull out my phone and record. I'd like to think I got a bit of a moral compass on it since I decided not to.

I know I'm a hypocrite, watching videos of that nature on sites like this even commenting on it or finding humor in some but I know whipping my phone out to record is some dick shit.
