Police Cop Cruiser Smokes Skater

This is a case where the officers should be held accountable for their actions. This was 100% avoidable and is backed up by the video evidence itself. That red flashing light appears to be a crosswalk light and not an intersection so there are no cars waiting or blocking the path of this officer. Could the skater have been smarter to use the crosswalk, sure, but at the speed that cop was driving, the skater likely was already in the road and had no where else to go. The officer driving all over the road like that is extremely reckless and unnecessary. Doubtful that it will result in actual punishment for the officer but the victim's family will easily win a wrongful death lawsuit against the city.
he wasnt crossing, he was skating in the middle of the road, like they (for some stupid reason) legally encourage in my state (the state in which the video takes place) you can get fined out the ass for skating on the sidewalks, and most roads there still have nothing like a bike lane or something, so skating in the middle of the road is unironically the safest way to (legally) skate.

personally i think its retarded. but thats the "law" so honestly this is 100% on the cops and not at all on the kid (or guy idk the age he was, dont really care either)

He thought he was safe in the middle. The cops had no business driving the way he did like he owned the entire road.
We have a busy 30mph road nearby and its hard to cross when it's busy unless you run full tilt. Motherfuckers in cars wont slow down and are often exceeding the speed limit by a lot
ive said it before in my previous comments but not only was he in the middle, and they had no reason to swerve there, the state also encourages skaters and bikers to ride in that area of the road since legally they cant on the sidewalk.

The cop driving SHOULD be held accountable from what we see here, imho. Pedestrians always have the right of way in Cali, no matter if there is a crosswalk or not. That said, I'm sure they will be protected because they were running hot. That usually gives cops a huge legal shield when the occasional accident like this happens.

are you certain pedestrians "always" have the right of way? Intersections, marked or unmarked, sure. They can't simply cross anywhere, though.

that's called jaywalking. They do not have the legal right to cross anywhere, however.
Look at the "Freedom to Walk" act. *Technically* it is still illegal for them to create a collision hazard by jaywalking, but it is not enforced at all. It's a clusterfuck trying drive in any fairly populated area. Maybe that's just my experience, though.
