Serious This sounds a bit commie to me... Kill Switch Legislation For US Cars.

from the beginning, America has always had puritanical thoughts from the...well, Puritans. I'm a bit of a Puritan myself, although i'm successfully loosening up a bit as i get older.

Speaking of cars, my 2025 has no kill switch, no camera watching me, and no stop/start. Act to protect yourself now against unelected busy-bodies in the government imposing their will on the rest of us.

Increasing tech will also increase the level of the Police State, it's inevitable.

See China for how the future may look.

I have a 2015 Landcruiser ute.

The Landcruiser doesn't even have electric windows let alone cameras. I love it. Diesel, super simple, super strong, drives well, can take over a ton in the back. What's not to like?

Been in cars for quite a few years now,

Mines a older model but if it doesn’t get a steering input in 30 seconds it dabs the brakes (wake you up) then it will slow to a stop and put the hazards on
Not in Australia thank God.

My wife's car is a Subaru Outback that has cameras everywhere and keeps bringing up irritating 'hints' like 'keep both hands on wheel', 'pay attention' etc.

No kill switch though...

Any car with an ECU can be stopped/killed by outside electronical interference. (Overload, focussed EMP or high powered directional radiowaves.)

Any modern car with drive by wire systems can be accesed from a distance. Near field "interference" from a trailing vehicle, and all of a sudden no more control.

i seem to recall a few incidents in the good ol us of a maybe a decade or so ago, it made some troublemakers... go away.

Kill switches like tesla cars have are already in use by....well.....tesla. as proven by tesla when they killed a cybertruck bought by an tjetjenic (Dont recall where the fucker was from) putin supporter.

Wanna be safe from interference? Drive anything mechanic. I.e. carburated (or mechanical injection, but good luck with finding that and/or being able to afford and maintain it).

And remember kids, always and i mean ALWAYS, wear your tinfoil hat.😘

that's a keeper for sure. How many miles on it? At your age, you may be able to keep this one till your grave.

There’ll be plenty of Mom&Pop auto shops willing to quietly bypass the switch for a handsome fee.

Besides, I think vehicles already equipped with OnStar, Lytz, OtoZon, Autobrain, RecoverR, Geotab, Samsara, Linxup & Verizon Connect can be remotely stopped by request of law enforcement during pursuits. They’re meant for Driver Monitoring and Geo Locating, but active theft shutdown is also a feature.

It has 250 000 km on it. It's a 4.5 litre V8 with the standard turbo charger. 5 speed manual with low ratio transfer case.

I had a 100 series naturally aspirated 4. 2 litre but it was really gutless towing up hills. Great in the bush as you are usually negotiating tracks at low speed.
I posted the sad demise of it here when a huge branch from my tree fell across it. Ah well, them's the breaks...

But the new one has much more power and loads of torque. Single cab ute so the aircon and heater work really well! It has a tipper too so all I need to do at the tip is to press a button and up she goes. Great when it's pissing down rain too...

But you're right. I'll be buried in this vehicle...

that sounds great, you can keep that going for a good long-time. My Ford 4.6 liter lasted till 331k miles.

I read an article recently about new vehicles being equipped with breathalyzers like they do to some people who have gotten DUI's and honestly I'm not totally opposed to that. Yes it's a form of control that does over reach privacy boundaries but I feel like it could potentially save lives. I don't drink and drive (well I haven't done it since my early twenties) so it wouldn't affect me. But all that BS from this thread, is just fucked up. I don't need AI determining whether or not I can start my truck in an emergency because it deems me unable to drive during a crisis. Or if I'm exhausted after a long ass day at work and it thinks I'm impaired....
naa man. its all or nothing. fuck having anything in these vehicles. the breathalyzer is only for those who have to have them installed. let it be a pain in the ass for them. let them rent the device and pay for its instal and un install. the govt is invasive enough. cars no longer have ashtrays and lighters, but have cameras and breathalyzers? nope...

My 100 series had 350 000 km on the clock when it got crushed. Motor was barely run in. They are low stress engines designed to just go and go in a remote mining or rural farm setting. I had that car for 15 years and all I ever did was change the oil, filters and belts. I sold the wreck to a local guy and I assume the engine is still going strong. They reguarly get over a million km on them.

Part of the longevity is being diesel. When the fuel ignites it burns rather than explodes so you get less stress all round even though the compression is really high due to the need to compress the air to ignition point.

The 79 series V8 is more crowded under the bonnet, what with an intercooler on top and it has one of the 'new' fan/water pump, etc belts which I'll get my mechanic to replace once it's needed.

I bought this one at an auction for a low price as it 'didn't have air con'. I confirmed this over the phone. It was from Tamworth council, in inland NSW. Very hot country, like Texas both in climate and looks. No aircon? I told my wife? no council employee of any worth will drive around in summer in Tamworth with no aircon. To put aircon in was to cost $6000. We factored it in.

On the drive home I put the 'fan' switch on and, low and behold, aircon!

With the V8 they put the aircon compressor under the engine so you can't see it from the top of the engine bay. Idiots... no wonder it hadn't sold! Has a winch too...
