Agreed. Incidentally I always believed there to be an etymological link between these two words, was suprised to learn that there wasn't. 'Awful' is derived from the Old English word 'egefull' meaning 'worthy of fear'.

This was Dec 31, right in the guts of the WA summer. 40c temps as guts by the tonne lay for hours on hot bitumen whilst getting smeared and crushed by vehicle wheels... very tasty traffic jam...

I exaggerate, only 31.7c...
