Serious 40 dead after explosion at NYE party at Swiss ski resort.

Well, that's definitely the opposite of poor white trash out to see fake Great White at The Station, eh?
Or maybe it's exactly like The Station, yikes.

"Investigators said Friday that the deadly fire that tore through a popular bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana early on New Year's Day was caused by sparklers on Champagne bottles, which ignited the bar's ceiling."

Some of them unfortunately were too young to comprehend the concept of β€œfire”. Mind boggling how they continue to stand there filming. Just living in the moment, then bacon bitts, … didn't happen by accident. Idiots

Crazy to die at 15 in a bar, especially in the Swiss alps.

View attachment 950038
I was 15 and sat in a bar in Switzerland I'm not the alps and they didn't serve us alcohol in the Veidibar (spelt how they said it),but the little shop did.
No fire though and despite popular belief (and in some cases probably wishful thinking) I'm not dead.

Imagine being 15 and some neighbour is planning to kill your dog after asking some people about it on the internet too...
That's gotta suck.

Sad that you didnt die in a fire back then but who knows maybe 2026 is the year.

Horrible tragedy. A lot of people quick to judge the young victims of the fire, but the high casualty numbers are very telling.

This was a flashover fire, similar to incidents such as The Station nightclub and King's Crossing. In one of the videos, where the fire is still small, you can see the flames rolling across the soundproofing foam that lined the ceiling. Inside that foam is basically petroleum; superfuel for a blaze. The Swiss bar featured sparklers in their drinks as many modern cocktail bars do for celebratory events; these indoor flares don't typically burn as hot or as long as normal ones do, but still hot enough to cause ignition of flammable foam material.

You can see in the same video droplets of melting foam dripping from the ceiling as the fire begins to feed on the flammable gasses releasing.

In less than a minute, the fire would have expanded and engulfed the entire room. From my understanding, this fire started in the basement, where there was only one stairwell exit and some confusion over whether there was an emergency exit available, but partially or fully blocked. I can see that in other footage the people there were already backed away from the fire, and making their way out. This lines up with studies and what emergency services are taught about how people react to and process being faced with a fire.

It is normal for people to analyse and process the situation first for a few extra seconds, up to a minute or so, but this would have quickly turned into chaos as a flashover fire burns much faster than a regular blaze.

Due to the location and heat of the fire, it would have turned the building into a furnace. There would have been superheated air as the fire forces air that's thousands of ΒΊC hot up that stairwell, spreading onto the next floors and instantly causing severe burns and panic as people wouldn't have been able to see (either due to injury or smoke and flames) and the fumes would be EXTRAORDINARILY toxic. That same superheated air would have created a "wall". People wonder why victims of a fire as intense like this are found in seemingly random locations; the answer is often that with limited visibility, injured and panicking, the intense heat funnels them into specific areas until they are overcome with the smoke or flames.

I've noticed many people wondering why nobody was helping the victims trapped in the crush or screaming inside; people were. Unless you've been in a fire or close to one, you don't appreciate the heat or how strong your instincts to STAY AWAY actually are. There was one man who forced open a sliding window door to allow a victim to escape (you can see their clothes, hair and skin have been partially seared off) and he had to be hospitalised for burn damage to his lungs.

Horrible, awful event and I hope they throw the book at the negligent owners for using the cheap foam and have a serious look at whoever was passing the venue on fire safety.

I'd like to try and add videos and images with timestamps for everything instead of a wall of text, but it's hard formatting on mobile.

At the first hint of smoke or a fire i would have instinctively got the heck out of there. I would have instantly panicked & quickly made a hasty walk to the door. Calling out for anybody else who i was with to follow me & shut up & let’s just go! Let’s get the hell out of here! Now!
I’ve always been intuitively afraid of fire & completely aware that i was in a tight & enclosed space & its claustrophobic already & this is potentially dangerous & life threatening. Even if i'm overreacting (which I'm prone to do) & worse case scenario (other than a fire) we have to make our way back into the bar with a sheepish look on our faces & embarrassed that we squeamishly bolted for the door - at least nobody could accuse me of not being aware of my surroundings & having a healthy respect for fire inside a close & contained environment. Even if i was young like these poor kids were. 15-26 years old, i still would have instantly feared for my safety & i would have grabbed any friend i was with by the collar & said β€œcome on fool. Let’s go!” 😞
