Saw is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year and we have been celebrating in many ways around here. I wanted to do something gruesome because let’s face it, we love those movies for the creative ways of killing people. So I’ve compiled a short list of torture implements that I would have liked to see in the series.
The pair of Anguish:
Aka The Choke Pear; a pear shaped metal instrument that is divided into 3 parts. Each part curved in a spoon like shape and was inserted into any orifice and expanded to torture. The Pear was mostly used on women who had miscarriages, liars, and homosexuals. Homosexuals got the worst of The Pear with it being inserted anally and expanded fully.
The Judas Cradle:
The Judas Cradle was used on so-called heretics to force flimsy confessions from them.
The unfortunate soul would be hoisted up by their waist via a metal belt and lowered onto a giant wooden pyramid. The idea was to position the pointy end to put pressure against the anus/vagina/scrotum until they confessed and/or were dropped onto it completely and impaled. I imagine this would be used as a dual trap in movie form with one person being sat atop of the cradle and another person in charge of keeping them suspended in air.
The Knee-Splitter:
Knee injuries are a sure fire way to send me on a trip to vomit land. This torture device would be included in my personal hell of being surrounded by screaming children in an underwater ship wreck of doom.
The Knee Splitter consisted of two wooden blocks joined together by two giant screws. The knees would go in-between the blocks and the torturer would crank them together *gag* and eviscerate the knees. The kicker? The blocks would consist of 3 to TWENTY spikes depending on how much they hated your ass.
The Heretics Fork:
No good can come from an opposed bi-pronged fork and no one realized that as well as the poor suckers it was used on. The apostate would be suspended from the ceiling with the fork affixed to his/her neck. The idea was that sleep deprivation would cause confessions and if they fell asleep the Heretic’s Fork would pierce their breast bone or throat. People hung for days.
I envision a Saw situation where a person who was arrogant towards others their entire life being subjected to this. I can hear it now…”You’ve spent years coasting through life with your nose in the air…
The Lead Sprinker:
The Lead Sprinkler does exactly what it says. It was filled with molten pieces of metal and then sprinkled onto the intended victim. The worst part of this? It was often used as a way of execution and not torture. The Inquisitors would sprinkle scorching lead into the eyes until they died.
The Spanish Donkey:
And finally, The Spanish Donkey. Why does the Spanish Donkey (aka The Wooden Horse) triumph as the worst on this list? Not solely because of what it does, but because it was still being used in the Civil War!
The Spanish Donkey is an angled piece of wood, much like a saw horse but sharp, in which the Confederate soldier (or whoever) would be placed on top. Weights or nails would be attached to the person’s feet to prevent them from falling off and the person’s full body would be pushed onto their crotch. To add insult to injury this would also be used in conjunction with tarring and feathering.
