I wish they had left it in the War forum. Nina was making a political statement. She was underground punk/grunge. She said she never anticipated this protest song would leave the German basements and hit # 1 worldwide.

Late Gen X here. I remember that song and the 80s.
We made a deal with the Russians after the fall of the Soviet Union, our Gov broke it and here we are again.
I love my 🇺🇸 but it is very clear and understandable why the Russians are not happy and distrust the West. Don’t believe the propaganda.

I love my 🇺🇸 but it is very clear and understandable why the Russians are not happy and distrust the West. Don’t believe the propaganda.

We made a deal with the Ukranians to protect them from aggression from anyone, including Russia in return for giving up their nuclear weapons. We (America) even paid to dismantle them so Russia didn’t have to. Russia was bankrupt in 1994 and couldn’t afford it anyway. We also paid for Russia to dismantle many of their nuclear subs.

We are bound by that agreement to help Ukraine against Russia. It’s called the Budapest Memorandum. Signed in 1994.

Russia and the UK also signed the agreement.

I’m not looking to get into a battle about who is right or wrong. I lived and worked in Russia in the 90’s. I have Russian and Ukrainian friends. Good people, all of them.

I’m not familiar with the agreement the US broke with Russia. Please share the agreement details and documentation.
