The Church of Scientology believes that a UFO full of aliens crashed into a volcano and their "essence" then became what populated the planet or something along those lines. By that statement some people would say that is a crazy, unbelievable story and only a fool would think it's true, much less become a follower of it.
Then that person will turn around and start talking about Jesus, a person who could walk on water, make wine from water, be born from a virgin, and also die then come back to life 3 days later.
To me those stories would seem to come from the same section in a library. Other religions promote talking bars(sheets) of gold, virgins in the afterlife, deities that are talking animals, or just about anything our imagination can imagine. How is it possible to live in a world where you must be logical and anti-fantasy in every other aspect except religion?
It's easy. You instill fear at a young age while they haven't gotten the ability to distinguish between real or a story book tale. As long as the adults believe it too then after so long it will become normalized and the mind won't even challenge its logic. So much so that when hearing the same exact belief system their brain won't use it as a comparison to their preconceived belief. And they will even laugh, call it stupid and make fun of the other never realizing that they are being hypocritical.
Religion survives because for the people leading it, it's the easiest money you can ever make and all you have to do is ask and you shall receive. For the others it gives them something to blame other than themselves or when they need to have an understanding about the world, a superficial reasoning in order to keep from having to think.

They say Tom Cruise and the leader of it went in 50/50 on whatever money came in. Cruise would promote it in the news and magazines and the other guy would run it. Cruise made billions from it.

essentially all religions come down to a core: Someone created everything. Someone will "bless" you if you follow what the religion says. Preach this religion to spread the good news. The first core provides a basic explanation to a population of the origin of life. Without basic science developments or technology in the past, simple stories were enough to inspire hope into people. While childish as it may seem, I feel like society wouldn't have progressed much without at least attempting to explore such topics. What often occurs however, is leaders of such elected groups using influence as well as funds to push their own agendas. It's how the church became such a strong force alongside kingdoms in England. Hell, common people weren't even allowed to read the bible back then until the king James version. this leads to misunderstandings and why you can see groups of religion stubbornly persisting in a day and age where we no longer need it. And as somebody who was baptised, did confirmation without understanding the process, altar served for my childhood AND went to a religious highschool, indoctrination is a huge part of religions (aka pubically accepted cults).

regardless if someone wants to be a catholic, a muslim, a jew, a buddhist, a witch, a satanist, or a pastafarian? That's their choice.

But the stories weren't simple. They were translated in simple ways. Or translated by people who wanted them to say what they believed. People were allowed to read any religious book they wanted. The problem was that they couldn't because they were in Latin or Greek. Later French. Translating them to English which was a newer language was forbidden because they didn't want it to be incorrect and misunderstood. But King James wanted to use it as a way to control the people so he had it done by having them use the French version and the Septaugint plus any changes he saw would help with his intended goal.
Religions keep people from taking on personal responsibility. It allows them to create an alternate being to blame for their abuses, hate, and selfishness. It's very unhealthy for a society.

Religion will remain, because until the non-existence of God has been proven, his existence cannot be rejected either
suffering, a lot of mentally weak people need to believe that this short time we are alive does not end with death and will continue
Since this has not been proven to exist or not, they cannot agree on this either
Let's say about UFOs crashing into volcanoes and I find them somewhat unbelievable, or gold bars or even the resurrection of Jesus Christ (I believe in Jesus himself, that he can be a real person only without any kind of magic) a bit ridiculous
Look, everyone believes in what they want or doesn't believe in what they don't want, only here is the material side of things, the ugly work when money comes up in the topic of religion, when believers are obliged to pay donations

sorry, I forgot it
Or governments pay huge sums of money to various churches to drug the people with religion
Equally, you cannot say that there is no God, because you cannot prove it
But you can't prove that God doesn't exist either because you can't prove that either, whatever you call it
At the same time, it seems to me that there is no God, because if there were, then there would not be such disgusting things and evil cruel people and diseases and suffering in the world as there are

Religions are essentially all the same. Read this book, believe it and the dude it talks about. Pay us the maximum amount you can and maybe even borrow some money to help us spread the word to all the poor ignorant souls who don't know about our truth. Maybe leave us your house when you die. As we are a tax free enterprise, we are free to do what the fuck we want.

Your last sentence is proof there isn't a God. Why? Because God isn't necessary for our survival. There doesn't have to be a God for there to not be an end. Eternal occurrence theory states that the entire universe is in a cycle of existence. This would make it so when you die, the universe will go thru its existence and then start the cycle over at the beginning. You will exist again in the same way as before and experience the previous life over again into infinity. Consciousness is the universe experiencing itself over and over again as if it's the first time. Existence requires a goal. Goals are not possible when you have an infinite conscious memory in infinite Time. So it must be erased and started over in order to exist.
Religion remaining doesn't mean it won't change or grow into something different.

This is how the Catholic Church became the largest private land owners in the world.

Religion has its place in society. Without it a lot of people turn into degenerate animals. Its true that in the last 100 yrs they lost a lot of influence with the people, and you see the results today. Faggotry, alphabet people, feminazis, a generation of young females that became prostitutes(onlyfans) this is all because churches lost their grip on people. Don't get me wrong, I am not religious, but I do understand why religion is important. Because it teaches the dumb people how to behave and it shuns away the undesirables. The crazy fucking cults also exist because people lost their faith in god. This scientology bullshit wouldn't fly 100-150yrs ago. They'd burn you and your family at the stake for it, then drown you and then burn you again to make sure.

the big change in religions is the ,"reward" system . In Ancient Rome you would make an offering to whichever God coincided with your problem . Off to war ? Make an offering to Mars , saying I give you this ( animal , wine or whatever. And you keep me alive) . With the Abrahamic religions it's a case of ; here are the rules . Follow them and you and up in eternal paradise , don't and it's hell for you .

Religion began as a way to create obedience to the church which was part of the state. This is why the first thing they taught was original sin. Everyone sinned so they must follow the church and do as they say in order to receive salvation. Before this the biblical teachings were that the human will has the power and the freedom to choose goodness and holiness on its own. Salvation was earned through good works. That man's will is weakened by his emotions and his natural instincts. In order to overcome this he must care for others more than he cares for himself.
But this isn't possible with current religious beliefs. Since it is taught that man is born evil and continues to be evil unless he accepts "God." So the teaching is the root cause of the problem because it should be taught every person is born with a clean slate and chooses good or evil and that it's your job to influence him with goodness so he becomes good.

Because it's our natural instinct to remember evil or bad things since this is a sign of danger. This is why people in society believe the world is worse than it was in the past because they are now connected to the entire world thru technology. Everything they see that's bad in the world their brain associates it as being their environment but it's their world environment not their personal environment. The brain isn't able to fathom the size of the planet and its population, instead it has a max comparison of around 800-900 people not 8 billion. So when it sees 10 crimes happen on social media or TV it puts the possibility into the percentage range of 800 not 8 billion.
for others, the devil is who is their go to. who sold their soul to him and received their desires.
people pray and pray and pray to their god, for their desires as well.
the devil seems busier than god.

The reward of heaven was necessary so that people would be more willing to sacrifice their life in battle. This is why Constantine had the church incorporated into the state so this would be taught at a young age.

And it's not that the church lost its influence on people or their grip and that's why society is the way it is. The reason society is going in the direction it's going is because you can't have the foundation of your society built on a lie. It will only go so high before it starts to get weak and then collapse. Nietzsche said that a society built on religious beliefs will collapse because the truth will be discovered and that will destroy it.

You started with the wrong foot. Scientology is a cult not religion.

Religion exists since the dawn of humanity way before the existence of any state.

The caveman was religious, religion was used as a cultural tool, offering identification between individuals and providing the cardinal points for a functional society. It also offered answers in the individual's relationship with the transcendental.

Modern societies are conducive to individualism, hence the individual's distancing from organized religion and dogma. This happens for several reasons: education, critical thinking and the very nature of modern societies, in other words, skepticism has taken the place of the dogmatic thinking.

Religion is all about controlling large groups of people so they can live together without turning on each other.

Definition of cult- system or community of religious worship and ritual. A religion regarded as unorthodox. Where do you think religion originated from? The Pelasgians cult of Heracles.
You are thinking of immanence not transcendental which is from the mid to early 1800's and began at Harvard. Most of society believes the conscious personality survives the death of the body. It's an intuition because we can see our bodies dying but not our mind.
Our general human beliefs in the afterlife are naturally instinctive and universal.
That shouldn't make it so religions are able to make up grand stories of impossibilities and use them to gain prosperity off of the less educated.
Societies distancing from religion is from the fact that there is more information available so they can answer questions they have and they are able to see how the past has been manipulated.

I also agree with my last sentence haha
It is not certain that the cycle exists in all cases
A large percentage of nature recycles itself, but people, for example, when they die, their skeleton remains, which can be proof that the cycle does not apply to people one hundred percent
If your previous life is erased, then there is no point in the whole cycle, since the basis of cyrogenics, for example, is to save both physically and mentally
