It has to do with statistics and the concentration of peoples. If you have one car parked on a county road in the middle of nowhere your chances of being hit are slim to none. If you are where there are idiots, whackos and retards in high concentrations of said persons you might want to consider moving, not parking on the street or walking everywhere.

Agree. I have personally witnessed three street parked cars in front of my building slammed. I counsel new move ins not to street park. (Surprisingly all three stopped to report it.)
