If there’s one thing that cranks, quacks, and grifters have long known, it’s that somehow being able to portray oneself as a “victim,” as “persecuted,” is the most effective way to rally followers and promote their grift.

How about working on not being fooled so easily by doing your own research into things like what the actual terms mean, or laws and regulations passed, or what parts of a statement are being used to mislead due to the readers lack of understanding in that area or term.
