Police have arrested two people over the alleged theft of the car owned by accused mushroom murderer Erin Patterson, with the alleged break-in caught on home security cameras.
While Patterson spent the festive period behind bars, the small MG SUV was allegedly stolen from her Gippsland property during a burglary on Christmas Eve.
Victoria Police said “a 23-year-old Cheltenham woman and a 18-year-old Cheltenham man were arrested in the allegedly stolen car in Cheltenham on 28 December about 1am”.

“The pair are expected to be charged on summons to appear at a magistrates’ court at a later date,” Victoria Police said.
It is believed Patterson’s two-storey home has been targeted on at least three separate occasions with thieves taking off with the car, TVs and vacuum cleaners.
A friend of Patterson’s took to a community Facebook page to expose one of the alleged offenders sharing images of the thief wearing a black jumper, cap, gloves and a mask.

“We have had a friend’s house broken into in Leongatha three times over the last month or so, last time being Christmas morning,” the Herald Sun reported a friend posting to Facebook.

“This time they stole a car, TVs, vacuums. I have finally been able to retrieve CCTV footage from the second time they broke into the property and removed all the outside cameras.
“Police caught a couple of offenders from the first burglary where they stole a heap of things and we are now thinking they took all spare keys, car keys etc and were not retrieved by the police at the time.
“They have obviously passed the keys on to mates to come and go from the house as they please.”
Patterson’s red car which featured during her infamous August appearance in front of journalists can also be seen in CCTV footage before the thieves allegedly removed the security cameras and made off with the car.
Patterson, 49, remains in custody after she was charged with three counts of murder in November after she allegedly served a deadly beef wellington to four guests at her Leongatha home.

The alleged triple murderer is accused of killing her former parents-in-law Don and Gail Patterson, along with Gail’s sister, Heather Wilkinson after all three died from symptoms consistent with death cap mushroom poisoning.
Patterson is also facing five attempted murder charges as investigators allege she attempted to kill her former husband Simon Patterson and attempted to murder Ian Wilkinson, who survived the fatal lunch.
Patterson is currently being held in the maximum security Dame Phyllis Frost Centre Prison in Melbourne’s western industrial suburbs as she awaits her May court hearing.
It is unclear whether anyone is residing in the home while Patterson is in custody.
