I think it would have been best for all of us to be in the commonwealth but we are still close. Sharing language really helps with that.

I'm an Aussie and we voted against becoming a republic back in the late 1980's. The thought of all those self important wankers all gearing up to be president was too much for me. Not to mention the fact that every constitutional lawyer has combed through our constitution with a fine tooth comb and has found out that it holds up pretty well.

To have a new constitution would be to have the strong possibility of leaving unintended land mines kicking around for later generations to trip over...

In my humble opinion of course...
