Backstory

A 9-year-old child was the victim of a serious hit-and-run accident in the Jardim das Américas neighborhood in Guarapuava (PR), on Saturday afternoon (December 6th). The boy was riding a bicycle when he was hit by a black Chevrolet Monza, driven by a 43-year-old man without a license and apparently intoxicated.

The impact was violent: the vehicle ran over the victim, dragging him several meters down the street before the driver fled, abandoning the car on another nearby avenue with evident damage. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect, known locally as "Bugre", leave the scene without providing assistance, despite the screams of the child's mother who witnessed the scene.

The boy was quickly rescued and taken to the Batel Emergency Care Unit (UPA), where he received stitches on his abraded stomach and initial treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred by air to Mackenzie Hospital in Curitiba, which specializes in pediatric trauma. His current health status has not been released, but the family is closely monitoring the case.

The driver was located and arrested in the early hours of Sunday (7) during a police approach. Security camera footage captured the exact moment of the hit-and-run, which shocked the community and went viral on social media. The Civil Police are investigating the case as serious bodily injury followed by fleeing the scene, with the possible aggravating factor of driving under the influence of alcohol.
