movies Catherine O'Hara dead at 71

1000005002.webp O'Hara had a storied career spanning over 50 years, beginning in 1974 as a The Second City cast member in Toronto and moving into sketch shows, cartoon voice work, and eventually various television and film roles. In film, she appeared as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice, Kate McCallister in Home Alone and Home Alone 2, was the voice of Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas (a role which she also voices in Disney Dreamlight Valley and Disney Speedstorm), and Cookie Fleck in Best in Show.

In television, O'Hara was best-known for portraying the eccentric Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek from 2015-2020 across all six seasons, a role for which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, as well as a Golden Globe for Best Actress. She also appeared in numerous other roles, such as Carol Ward in Six Feet Under, Dr. Orwell in A Series of Unfortunate Events, and most recently Patty Leigh in The Studio, and Gail Lynden in The Last of Us. Her final film appearances included as Ruth in Argylle, a reprise of her portrayal of Delia in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the voice of Pinktail in The Wild Robot, and as herself in the documentary John Candy: I Like Me

That's young...must have been sick or so i guess

If you're a 71 year old Bowhead Whale maybe that's considered "young" but, at the age of 71, that really isn't much younger than the average for wealthy (which usually means better access to health, wellness, & medical), caucasian, American, females... which is calculated by some to be 78 but, some come up with 82 so, an avg of ~80 years?

She had been sick actually but, her publicist didn't say with what specifically, yet. They may not release that info, ever. They just said she didn't show for a couple engagements on her itinerary & had a medical emergency while at her Brentwood estate, called for an ambulance, & was transported by ambulance & admitted in "serious condition" to a local hospital but, later died there.
She was active in her community association apparently & very highly regarded around her Brentwood neighborhood (HMO President) in addition to being a great actress & wife & mum of two now grown boys.

Interestingly, she did have dextrocardia with situs in versus [where your organ(s) are mirrored inside you I.E. your heart is on the right side versus left] which is only fatal if some one messes up because they aren't aware of that. It's considered a "birth defect" & occurs in ~1:10,000 but, perhaps those built like that are built the correct way and the majority of everyone else are built backwards... we're perhaps the birth defectives. 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️ 🫠

not really. When i bought a life insurance policy, they (the actuarial table) said that a man born in 1961 would die at age 78, which is 2039. Not too far away. I told them i never smoked so i'm sure it's earlier than that. Or maybe later who knows or cares really, once i'm gone i won't care either.

Once i had financial security, i cancelled the policy. It was only if i dropped dead young to protect them...even after death i worried about my family's financial security. Maybe i'm too nice, i'm going to worry more about myself from now on.

I understand, maybe 'young' was not well chosen. Still with the average numbers you give there is close to a 10 years gap, which if you are in good condition is a lot of time. With the healthcare progress and AI those predictions might increase much more. Fuck it I don't want to die 😅😂
