US authorities hunting for the killer of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk have released pictures of a “college-age person of interest” and offered up a $100,000 reward for information, as Donald Trump praised the “martyr for truth and freedom”.
Mr Kirk, 31, was assassinated at Utah Valley University campus on Wednesday, local time, in what Mr Trump called a “dark moment for America”.

The FBI has made several “breakthroughs” in its investigation into the shooting, including the discovery of a high-powered, bolt-action rifle in a wooded area close to the attack.

Investigators also found ammunition engraved with expressions of transgender and anti-fascist ideology inside the rifle that authorities believe was used in the shooting, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an internal law-enforcement bulletin and a person familiar with the investigation.

They tracked the suspect’s movements through stairwells and up to and across the roof from where the fatal shot was fired.

After the shooting, the killer ran across a rooftop, jumped and fled to a nearby neighbourhood.

A footwear impression, a palm print and forearm imprints have been recovered.

FBI director Kash Patel has headed to Utah, where JD Vance is due to meet the family of Mr Kirk before flying his body to his home state of Arizona aboard Air Force Two, the Vice-President’s plane.
