Obviously it's an Asian think.

I once (1985) got a 'long range taxi' from the Thai border to KL and he would over take over blind rises and when my nails began sinking into his arm he'd laugh and point to the statue of Buddha on the dash and giggle... fuck me, but we made it...

They take to driving the same kind of fatalistic thinking they take to life, with obvious consequences...
