lovedeadmigs, i listen to many genres: vaporwave, chillwave, coldwave, dreampop, indietronica, etc. some of it is from the '80s; some of it is just sounds like it.

I know I am an old fart so stoneforest forgive me if I have no clue what "vaporwave, chillwave, coldwave, dreampop, indietronica means. The "genres" or sub-genres of music out today baffle me.

Sn00kumz, you're forgiven.

vaporwave is a microgenre of electronica music defined by its appropriation of 1980s and 1990s mood music styles such as smooth jazz, elevator music, r&b, and lounge music, typically sampling or manipulating tracks via chopped and screwed techniques and other effects. (whitewoods, pizzagirl, a gap between, etc.)

chillwave is a microgenre characterized by a faded or dreamy retro pop sound, escapist lyrics about the beach or summer, psychedelic or lo-fi aesthetics, mellow vocals, low-to-moderate tempos, effects processing, and vintage synthesizers. (memory tapes, neon indian, castlebeat, etc.)

coldwave is characterized by its irreverent, detached tone and minimal use of electronic instruments. the term is an early synonym of "darkwave," "goth," and "deathrock." in later years, it has become subsumed under the retrospective labels "minimal wave" or "minimal synth." (black marble, drab majesty, lebanon hanover, etc.)

dreampop is a subgenre of alternative rock typified by a preoccupation with sonic texture and atmosphere as much as melody. it often overlaps with the related genre of "shoegaze" and the two terms have at times been used interchangeably. (you'll never get to heaven, ocean hope, mr. twin sister, etc.)

indietronica is also known as indie electronic, indietronic, indietronics, and lap-pop. it combines indie rock with elements of electronic music styles such as idm, electro, and glitch. (mgmt, the knife, crystal castles, etc.)

I can't believe you took the time to post the meaning of each genre. I am in awe!! I know it is easy to just google stuff these days. The fact that you took the time to explain it makes me happy!!!
