Ahmedabad: A 32-year-old woman filed a police complaint against her husband and mother-in-law, alleging assault, abuse, and threats to her life after they blamed her for the suicide of her husband's brother.

The woman suffered multiple wounds after her husband allegedly attacked her with a knife near Umiya Nagar on Monday evening.

The complainant lodged an FIR with Nikol police under sections 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives of husband), 118(2) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 54 (abettor present when offence is committed) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the complaint, the woman had a love marriage with the accused in January last year. She alleged that soon after the wedding, her husband and mother-in-law began harassing her over trivial issues.

"My husband also started abusing me. During this period, my brother-in-law died by suicide, and my in-laws blamed me for his death, saying it was my fault. They physically assaulted me and threw me out of the house, forcing me to return to my parents' home, where I have been staying for the past five months," the woman stated in her complaint.
