Looks like lack of humans therefore lack of food.

Under certain conditions, donkeys are among the best watch dogs there are, especially over sheep and cattle. It probably grew weary of all that wooly thinking around there.

The donkey is just trying to resuscitate them with gentle CPR and a neck massage.
He needs a medal. Our at least a big carrot and a pat on those cute little donkey ears.

I'd really like some context. Where/when is this? Why is the donkey trying to eat sheep? Is it crazy? Is it just so hungry and desperate that it will try anything?

I read that donkeys are purely herbivores and feeding them animal protein can actually kill them 😞
