DPRK military intelligence report:

The United States is developing measures aimed at preventing cooperation between Russia and North Korea, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on December 16.

He noted:
“We will continue to take appropriate action in response to our concerns about this unprecedented cooperation.”

The statement was made during a conversation with reporters when he was asked about US plans to counter interactions between Moscow and Pyongyang.

The Korean soldiers are getting combat experience and their weapons are being properly tested, that is plenty of payment on its own by preparing them for defense against the US and US occupied South Korea. I believe the DPRKs soldiers are also receiving standard Russian army paychecks as well.
I can ask around with some people for better information and write again later.

DPRK troops are active in the Kursk region but they haven't participated in any combat, they're undergoing multiple extra training phases and they're being given defensive positions in the rear. They won't be assaulting into Ukrainian positions and they won't cross the Russian border into Ukraine, they are solely there as territorial defense.
Any information that says otherwise is disinformation

Christmas day in Pyongyang, all stores were closed and people took the day off work to spend time with their families.

Contrary to the common belief held around the world, Christianity is very common in the DPRK and is celebrated openly in community churches. The government has publicly announced they previously funded multiple churches to keep them from closing when they weren't making enough donation money.
