I loved the way words were so clear in their meanings back then. Now they are packaged in such twisted ways so as not to offend that they are meaningless.
We used to have, in Melbourne, Victoria, where I grew up, an organisation for people with cerebral palsy called The Spastic Society. They had buses painted blue with pictures of forgetmenots on the side. At school we'd rile each other up by saying 'Saw you on the blue bus today mate...'
Remember when (God, this sounds like 'member berries...) 'disabled' meant people who lacked an ability? Then it became 'differently abled', then 'special' and so on. Each name change came with a limited lifespan before it, too, became a term of derision. "You are really fucking special Leroy aren't you?"
My favorite off all time really is 'Mongolian idiot'. The term 'idiot' is obviously post Freudian as it refers to the Id. And thus accurate.
