In the Binondo district of Manila, Philippines - often described as the Filipino capital's Chinatown - a fire engulfed a five-storey residential and commercial building after a gas tank exploded at an eatery on the building's ground floor.
The fire was put out less than two hours after firemen arrived at the scene, but six bodies were found on the mezzanine floor and five others on the second floor. The windows were fitted with iron grills, preventing the victims from escaping.
The fire is Metro Manila's deadliest since 2015, when 74 workers were killed in a blaze at a slipper factory.
