I think this song is relevant even today. Good on your country to intervene in Vietnam. If Nixon was not effectively forced to resign by that "Watergate" farce there might even have been an independent south Vietnam like South Korea is today.

Iran has declined continually since it was first conquered fully first by Alexander (it was then Zoroastrian) and later by Islam about a century after muhammad and then by the mongols under the Great Khan Temujin who diverted a river and sent his commander Jochi and Subotai Bahadur to break to the sword of Islam that was Iran during the time (Khwarazemian Empire) ... the problem is Islam. When Trump says "save what was once the Persian empire" that is like hearkening to the Mayan empire or Vikings and I find it a bit naive. The reality is that Iran is Islamic ...Shia but nonetheless it uses Islam as a justification for all it's misadventures.

As for Iranians appearing decent I can tell you it's because of their Zoroastrian past. Iran retained a sort of "cultural Zoroastrianism" if you can call it that as many people say today (cultural Christian and the like) when they are ashamed of their religion. In India we have Parsis who are the original inhabitants of Iran before it was forcibly converted to Islam , many of them fled east and were given refuge here and have flourished and even fought in defence with records of them fighting as early as 10th century on the frontiers of what is now called pakistan. Many Iranians celebrate Nauroz which is an ancient Zoroastrian festival of harvest like the Parsis(Zoroastrians) do and share cultural similarities. Many old fire Temples are still preserved in Iran built by kings like Cyrus and Darius and the like.

Not a proud moment overall in our country's history. 😒😔 They deserved to remain independent! But, I don't think the Watergate scandal, had it not happened, would have changed the end result of that war. We were already shifting our military away before then to the South Vietnamese military & the Viet Cong & North Vietnamese Armies could sustain that conflict for much longer, they had the numbers. I think the outcome of Vietnam was inevitable no matter what.
