I used to work on an outdoor pig unit back in the 80s. We used to get this quite often. Sometimes the piglets would survive and despite injuries would live on. The typical injuries would be skin loss which would scab over.

Of course there were many times when they didn’t survive and you’d find them in the pen half eaten.

I also worked in an indoor pig unit in Denmark and don’t ever remember seeing it there. The guy on the outdoor unit said he thought it might because the sow injests stones when they were fed as their food was just poured out of bags on to the ground and this could affect their digestion. Dunno.

She was being housed in an inadequate enclosure. It's not normal for pigs not to be able to root around, not be able to feel the sunshine. They barely even gave her any straw. She went crazy, I doubt she even knew what she was doing.
