That kind of accident happens to bicyclists probably more often than they'd like to admit. I've seen it multiple times in my life.

If only the cyclist could go back in time
In my youth, I had a bicycle, and I rode it everywhere, often taking day trips from home with a packed lunch, and not returning home again until evening. I must have racked up a fair few hundreds of miles of distance, on main roads and back roads, and not once did I ever crash into the back of a stationary car, or even be clipped/hit by a moving car.
I'm thinking that cyclists have got dumber as time has gone by. Not complaining, as it's now great entertainment.
