At 7 or 8 we think in concrete terms. I remember my mother asking me why I had put butter into the honey jar. I said the label said 'in hot weather store with butter' ie the fridge.
At her age though she may be autistic. They are also concrete thinkers. My son is on the spectrum and when it starts to rain and we ask him to bring in the sheets he'll do that but leave the shirts on the line...
