Have you ever extracted gold from computer processors?

I've got five large (14 gallon) Rubbermaid tubs full of desktop PC processors I've been collecting since the mid-90's, and I'd like to extract the gold pins and any other gold bits from them easily and safely.

I've seen methods involving a bunch of chemicals, but that seems like a lot of unnecessary effort and sort of dangerous.

Could I not just burn all the processors until there's nothing but the gold left behind?

I figure there's gotta be well over a thousand bucks worth of gold in those tubs and the extra money would be nice.

You're insane to think you can do this yourself. Just the cost of the chemicals and acid proof materials needed to do this would neuter the operation. I won't even get in to the hazards you'll face by even attempting to use these chemicals needed for what you're proposing. You have level B hazmat protection accessible?

I work at a high speed beverage bottling company as an automation technician. Yes, I have retrieved gold from a piece of equipment off of a filler, I can't get too specific(slip ring). The part in question costs $18,000 to replace. We replaced it, and instead of trashing it, I did break it down, shave the gold pcb parts off, soaked them in acid for 45 days, filtering them 3 times. After all that, I got 6.3g of gold. Roughly $460 out of an $18,000 piece of equipment that didn't belong to me. So, HELL YEAH!!!!!!

Yeah, getting started, including the Smelter would outpace any expected profit
on the first batch. I'm not comfortable with other methods heavy on chemicals.

Between the four tubs of processors, I think I might wind up with a lot more than an ounce of gold! An ounce is worth about $5k right now, so I'm thinking this should be worth the time to do.

Have you ever considered going to prison just to make inroads with the criminal community?

They have workshops on how to launder, anatomy, macroeconomics, IT security, etc. and a very large in-network referencing.

Might be worth looking into.

I have four massive tubs filled with processors similar to this. Those pins are gold. I bet there's over a thousand processors, maybe more? Look at the price of gold right now:



I dunno, man... There's gotta be at least a few ounces between all the processors. Even if I just manually cut them all off of the board with a razor blade, it might be worthwhile. Besides, I gotta do something with them, right? I wonder how hard it would be to smelt it all down? The more I think about it, the more excited I am about it.
